Remember how in early 2010, before the Nevada primary election (a couple of weeks before), Senate candidate Sharon Angle was polling less than 5%? Remember how according to beltway insiders Christine O’Donnell didn’t stand a chance against liberal Congressman Mike Castle?
Apparently Howard Dean remembers it well.
Howard Dean, the former Democratic National Committee chairman who helped Democrats capture the White House in 2008, warns that Sarah Palin could defeat President Obama in 2012.
Dean says his fellow Democrats should beware of inside-the-Beltway conventional wisdom that Obama would crush Palin in a general-election contest next year.
I’ve said before that Sarah Palin, should she get in the race, would likely walk away with the GOP nomination. Her ability to command media at any time will put her under the spotlight while the rest of the field fights for scraps of attention. Her base is extremely energized and ready to campaign.
Add to that the fact the economy is tanking even further over the cliff and Democrats now have no one to blame but themselves and you’ve got a unique recipe. Howard Dean sees this.
Dean warns the sluggish economy could have more of a political impact than many Washington strategists and pundits assume.
“Any time you have a contest — particularly when unemployment is as high as it is — nobody gets a walkover,” Dean said. “Whoever the Republicans nominate, including people like Sarah Palin, whom the inside-the-Beltway crowd dismisses — my view is if you get the nomination of a major party, you can win the presidency, I don’t care what people write about you inside the Beltway,” Dean said.
Palin says her decision is a 50/50 split. I on the other hand think it’s more in the 60/40 range. 60% she stays out, 40% she decides to run.
What do you think?

i THINK HE’S RIGHT. I BELIEVE SARAH HAS MORE OF A FOLLOWING THAT THE MEDIA/POLLS – /EVEN THE GOP WANT TO BELIEVE OR ACKNOWLEDGE. SARAH IS ONE WHO IS NOT AFRAID OF THE MEDIA OR WHAT SHE SAYS OR DOES. SHE SPEAKS HER CONVICTIONS WITH HONESTY (WHICH IS MORE THAN MOST CANDIDATES WHO SEEK MEDIA ATTENTION OR CAVE IN.) ONE THING ABOUT SARAH – SHE IS HONEST, HAS NEVER WAVED IN HER BELIEFS IN THREE YEARS. SHE IS GOD, COUNTRY, FAMILY, CONSTITUTION. SHE IS THE IRON LADY OF THIS COUNTRY.
I agree Jacy, Sarah Palin is the Iron Lady, I think she would win easily! Most people would vote for her just because they won’t vote for Obummer any way! God bless her efforts, may he guide her every move!
You go Sarah, we love you!
I think that if Howard Dean says it, it is a probably a false message. The Dem’s are very good at strategy and everything that is said (except for Joe Biden) has a reason; and it is not about telling the truth.
I agree with you, Dave. The left is very good at these sort of tactics.
He thinks he can get everyone to rally behind Palin because he thinks she is a weak candidate and Obama will win. Believe me, if he really thought she could win he would NOT say it in public.
I am not against Sarah Palin. I am just saying to look at past behavior of the left.
dean is lying ..he’s a false prophet.. its a ruse.. i like sarah but she’s not the one… and the elites would tear her apart… still love her!!
ONE LIE AFTER ANOTHER, YOU HAVE TO BE CAREFUL WHICH LIE YOU CHOOSE.
Sarah is a true American. She is for God & Country. She is not just trying to line her pockets or make her retirement. She would be a real “KICK-ASS” president. No more Bull. Like it or not —this is a real American Woman.
She will take us back to the United States Constitution.
NO NEW WORLD ORDER Crap.
If no New World Order, why were she and McCain so soft on illegal immigration crackdown in 2008?
Sarah Palin generated enthusiasm in 08 but she was attached to a tired old anchor who was mismanaged by his staff and himself. She would make an awesome President. Now, she is a free lady who knows what she believes and is ready to run, although I do not expect her to run. She is in a position with her ardent supporters to make a difference doing what she is doing now. She has experience to ogovern whereas the old stale republicans are out dated, as her running mate in 08 was, as Dole was, as old man Bush was. All the community organizer has is a corner on the teleprompter market. Sarah will run if she believes the door has been opened for a run. She is a patient lady. If the door opens she will run but if it is closed she will not. And I do not mean open by the republicans. And Mr. West would make an awesome VP on her ticket.
beware they set up McCane to run against Obama and Obama won
No, No, don’t throw me into the briar patch!
Take special care when a sworn enemy gives advice.
I to believe she can win and we would be better off if she did. the Dem. are affraid pof her and that is why they are working so hard to get people thinking she cannot win. Thats also why they are keeping close tabs on her.
I like Sarah. I want to see her run for Senator from her state of Alaska. I would choose not to vote if the GOP chooses Sarah for this 2012 election.
Andrew, Not voting for Sarah or other opponent of obummo means you are voting for obummo!
We MUST vote against obumo no matter what!
We all remember how Howard Dean was a sure winner, and blew it for himself, so I don’t think he’s really someone who can predics who’s going to win. Having said that, as much as Sarah Palin may be great, I don’t think she’ll be able to win against Obama. Off course, the way the economy is, actually help the Republicans, but other than that, I think the Republicans should go for a much stronger candidate. Please, keep in mind, that Republicans need the Independent voter also, and I don’t believe Sarah Palin can attract them. All in all, it must be someone who can relate to both Republicans and Independents. If not, Obama will have another 4 years
Sarah is exactly what we ALL need right now. Seems she’s the only one who can get this country back to what we remembered it to be many years ago. In my heart, I feel nothing but GOOD things will be coming from her and she will go down as one of the BEST presidents we’ve ever had.
Sarah is befuddling the pundits now, and would/will continue to do so.
Edit note:
“Howard Dean remembers it will” s/b “well”. I hope.
McCain was set up to win nomination by the media so Obama could win
SARAH PALIN would be a “KICK ASS” president. She takes no BS from either side of the isle and knows how to bring America back to the Basics and back to “IN GOD WE TRUST!
We need someone who doesn’t have their HAND in our pockets and is going to get rid of the crazy OBAMA CARE!
YOU GO GIRL!
Sarah Palin should remain doing what she is currently doing. She is a force to be reckoned with and could help the Republican Party immensely by being the power broker behind the scenes. She is in tune with the Tea Party and knows what Republican candidates should be doing. Howard Dean is lying. He is trying to sway her into running. Unfortunately is she does it will hurt Republican chances as the press is ready and willing to continue their vilification of her. Unfortunately, there are still too many people watching the lamestream media and still believeing them. The focus gets removed from the issues and becomes personal with Sarah. It is unfortunate but true.
I don’t have a favorite candidate as yet just a list of those who are “running” that I’ve eliminated as representative of my personal convictions. So contemplating Sarah Palin campaigning for the White House is more an exercise in political strategies. I think Palin is more powerful as a supporting propellant for some Constitutional Purist candidate than being on the ticket herself.
Is there anyone here who really cares what Howard Dean has to say?
I don’t give the guy the time of day and if we continue to listen to and watch these fools we will be Foolish!
Please, I’m in Western Ma. a little humor is not only called for, but required. The Weiner Roast. Calling out all naughty politicians.
Or is Howard Dean secretly wishing that we will assume that he knows we are on to his devious subterfuge and is therefore revealing to us his genuine concerns regarding the possible success of a Palin campaign in the misguided hope that we will regard his speech as intentionally disingenuous in an effort to cause us to speculate that he really does want Sarah to run for President so that we will realize that she really doesn’t have a chance of winning and therefore not support her candidacy? Hmmm?
Political reality- Obama won the popular vote 53-47%, and that was against the lethargic, Geritol swilling gas bag McCain who couldn’t generate enthusiasm from his own daughter. Does anyone think that just 3% of the electorate in a crumbling economy with rising unemployment and discontent hasn’t had some buyer’s remorse? Just 3%? Obama is dead man walkin’. A homeless inebriated pedophile would engender more ardor than Barry Soetoro. “Somewhere in Kenya, a village is missing its idiot.”
I think it’s a given she’s in…It’s coming in on the attack mode and not letting the media run her campaign. It’s coming in in full knowledge that none of the current candidates can get enough support to do the job. They all know it.
The dream team will poll in the 70′s not the 20′s like the candidates are now. Palin/West
I think you are right about Sarah…….I personally think that when she does accept the nomination that it will blow the Dims/Libs out of the water. They won’t know whether to sh*t or go blind. Good reasoning on her part to wait so long to get into the action is that it gives her opponents less time to think of ways to try to destroy her.
