“Reckless spending has led to a 15 trillion dollar national debt … And what does Newt Gingrich suggest? Spending half a trillion dollar on a moon colony,” the ad says.
Below is a clip showing the comments made by Gingrich last month on the campaign trail.
Listen to the ad online at Rick Santorum’s website.

While I like Rick Santorum, I do not believe that attacking Newt for his moon base idea, is a good thing. No one, let alone Newt, is saying that America should go bankrupt by putting a base on the moon..
What Newt is saying, is that America should look beyond the horizon, just like President JFK had envisioned for America. Ensuring that the future, and inevitable expansion of the universe, be with America, not with the Chinese or Russians..
Space developement gave us many advancements of innovative technologies, that we now take for granted. There is an extremely narrow short sightedness that is so easily untilized for political purposes in politics today.
Rick is A nice fellow, but he is making an ass of himself trying to come up with anything he thinks that will make the other guys look bad.I’m not saying everything Newt does is 100%.but this moon base is not so crazy,You can bet the Chinese will be there as soon as they can. What do you think that will do to our nation?
Then Newt should learn to say what he means instead of us Ass u ming we know what he’s saying
Mr Santorum which sounds more insane Pesident Kennedy saying in 1962 that he wanted to land a man on the moon in less than 8 years when we were still inventing the technology for the “Color TV’ or having a moon base and with the technology to do so….MJ
One of the most popular innovation by-products of the NASA space program is velcro.
Santorum is an idiot, and a hypocrite to boot. The guy is trying to pass himself off as a “conservative” and while he was in office he never met a problem that couldn’t be solved by government. He’s a pro-life statist.
That said, there are deposits of rare earth minerals on the moon that we need for our national security. The only source here is China and they’re cutting back exports, I would expect them to be cut off completely. I’d much rather see the US spend a few billion protecting our national security – which happens to be a Constitutional obligation of the federal government – than spend a nickel on anything the Department of Education or Energy or Commerce or HUD does.
As a matter of fact, we could close those departments and have a net savings.
Whoa Thar Podner ! Criticizing a policy of further space exploration in the financial position of the U.S. does not make one an idiot.
Let’s do something about that first. Then we can look beyond the far horizons.
You are right, however on the departments you mention. None of the above is doing the job for which it was created. All have drastically outreached their authority and lost their purpose. They don’t need to be “fixed”. They need to be eliminated.
But I don’t think your response was generated by any hint of space exploration. I think it was merely the act of criticizing “your guy”. All the candidates will be criticized. That does not make any one of them, not even the cult leader Mr. Paul, an idiot.
Soon, a candidate will be selected. We all need to get behind that person 100% and rid our country of the arrogant, unconstitutional leadership she’s mistakenly tied about her neck like an albatross.
I like the idea of staying in the race for space. We should not let china take the lead. Newt talked of leting private interprise take it over which is a creative way to proceed.
After Newt left office as speaker of the house what did the republicans on capitol hill do that was so great ?
Did they fix our boarders? No! they tried to give amnesty to all the illegals
Did they balance the budget as Newt did ? No! they raised the debt celing eight years in a row.
Did they reduce the size of the federal government? No! they created a 40 billion a year home land insecurity.
Did they let the free markets play out No! they were the first to bail out failed banks.
Did they improve the image of the republican party ? No they left it on it’s death bed . They lost the house , the senate and the presidency . Really ! the record tells me Newt was not the problem the estaablishment republicans on capitol hill are the problem. I will take Newt’s record over theirs any day on the week.

I am sorry Santorum does not have enough vision for America to believe all things are possible to the citizens of America if they are left alone by the Gov’t to think of all ideas that may be many years away but remember a seed the size of a mustard seed will grow into amazing things if tended to. Instead of mocking ideas, water them, give them sunlight and applause. Lets bring average thinking up to great thinking. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. I would rather grow the grain that be doled out someone said I could have.
Most of the government was supposed to stay the size of a mustard seed but it was watered with immense amounts of debt and entitlements.
We don’t need to lose sight of the wonderful things that space programs have brought us but we are no longer able to do everything for everyone for free. We surely can’t do it by appointing more and more people to grow the government that now tries to control every facet of our lives.
We need to do some house cleaning first. Then, after the tax and tax and spend and spend people are replaced with constitutional leaders, we can and will proceed on to new frontiers. Our first job is in November.
No Obama ! No Rinos ! No democRATS !
Romney is clearly a liberal and cannot be trusted
We need to back Newt at all costs. Send donations to keep him in this for Super Tues and he will sail into the Whitehouse
while many have great fears of Romney, most have not learned of the man
Fear is clouding good judgment in many cases
Sometimes, this facet of Romney’s personality isn’t so subtle. In July 1996, the 14-year-old daughter of Robert Gay, a partner at Bain Capital, had disappeared. She had attended a rave party in New York City and gotten high on ecstasy. Three days later, her distraught father had no idea where she was. Romney took immediate action. He closed down the entire firm and asked all 30 partners and employees to fly to New York to help find Gay’s daughter. Romney set up a command center at the LaGuardia Marriott and hired a private detective firm to assist with the search. He established a toll-free number for tips, coordinating the effort with the NYPD, and went through his Rolodex and called everyone Bain did business with in New York, and asked them to help find his friend’s missing daughter. Romney’s accountants at Price Waterhouse Cooper put up posters on street poles, while cashiers at a pharmacy owned by Bain put fliers in the bag of every shopper. Romney and the other Bain employees scoured every part of New York and talked with everyone they could – prostitutes, drug addicts – anyone.
That day, their hunt made the evening news, which featured photos of the girl and the Bain employees searching for her. As a result, a teenage boy phoned in, asked if there was a reward, and then hung up abruptly. The NYPD traced the call to a home in New Jersey, where they found the girl in the basement, shivering and experiencing withdrawal symptoms from a massive ecstasy dose. Doctors later said the girl might not have survived another day. Romney’s former partner credits Mitt Romney with saving his daughter’s life, saying, “It was the most amazing thing, and I’ll never forget this to the day I die.”
So, here’s my epiphany: Mitt Romney simply can’t help himself. He sees a problem, and his mind immediately sets to work solving it, sometimes consciously, and sometimes not-so-consciously. He doesn’t do it for self-aggrandizement, or for personal gain. He does it because that’s just how he’s wired.
Many people are unaware of the fact that when Romney was asked by his old employer, Bill Bain, to come back to Bain & Company as CEO to rescue the firm from bankruptcy, Romney left Bain Capital to work at Bain & Company for an annual salary of one dollar. When Romney went to the rescue of the 2002 Salt Lake Olympics, he accepted no salary for three years, and wouldn’t use an expense account. He also accepted no salary as Governor of Massachusetts.
We are suppose to be conservatives and believe in our constitution. These remarks make us sound like wolves attacking each other. Rick S. is a true conservative and is now winning Colorado, Missouri and Minn. So lets get off the wolf attacks and support a true conservative. I could live with Mitt Romney but not Gingrich — we need to see him for what he really is a Washingto Elite and a Womanizer. I don’t need any of your emails telling me how great Newt is either– if you want Newt go for it!! I have my own opinions == the same as each of you do and you are entitled to your choices but mine is Rick S. or Mitt Romney!!
