The Iowa Straw Poll isn’t necessarily a perfect measure of who will take the the vote in the Iowa Caucuses. In fact, as was seen last time around, Mitt Romney won the Straw Poll but Mike Huckabee took the Caucus vote. No doubt, though, a win in the Iowa Straw Poll is a shot in the arm for any candidate holding the trophy.
The candidate to take home the Iowa Straw Poll trophy this year is Michele Bachmann.
The top 5 are listed as follows:
- Michele Bachmann
- Ron Paul
- Tim Pawlenty
- Rick Santorum
- Herman Cain
The Campaign Trail Report congratulates Michele Bachmann for a job well done in Iowa. Bachmann’s win cements her place as a very serious candidate in the 2012 GOP primary. I think at this point it’s safe to assume the top tier, top 3 candidates are Michele Bachmann, Mitt Romney and Rick Perry.
Tim Pawlenty has to be pleased to take #3 in the poll. Ron Paul was expected to do well and a #2 spot is solid. I’m surprised Rick Santorum picked up #4 and that’s actually pretty good for him.
The candidate most damaged here might be Herman Cain. Jon Huntsman and Newt Gingrich were never really expected to perform well. Cain on the other hand has spent a lot of time in Iowa and a 5th place finish will pretty much seal the deal on his campaign running with no steam.
We’ll have lots of updates tomorrow and Monday so keep an eye out for more reports!

If Cain is running mate material then he needs to stay in. Nice to hear you in Thiensville Eric.

This time we should not listen to the Liberal Media and just get behind the most popular candidate. All the backstabbing and selfish attitudes will accomplish is another 4 years of Socialist destruction of our Country!
Funny…if Ron Paul had taken first place the straw poll would have been discarded as meaningless. With Bachman in first place, however, it has great significance. How do you reconcile Bachman in first place and Ron Paul in second place and ignore the significance of his placement? Ron Paul is the only candidate who has the right answers to the problems our nation faces.
Having heard Rick Perry’s announcement speech today, I’m guessing he will be our candidate. A Perry/Bachman ticket would get support from all reaches of the country.
Bill: All Rick Perry was doing was parroting tea-partiers. Check him out – he is definitely not a tea-party candidate if you look at his past record
“Having heard Rick Perry’s announcement speech today, I’m guessing he will be our candidate. A Perry/Bachman ticket would get support from all reaches of the country.”
You’ve got to be kidding me. Statements like this on a Tea Pary website? Folks need to look beyond Tricky Rick’s speeches and check out his record. He’s just another big government establishment Republican. Dubya fooled us once. Don’t get fooled again.
Your right look beyond his speeches, & what he really has done for Tx.. I’d like to know how Perry has time to write books while in office, if he is busy with being a Gov. Sounds like Obama, has someone else telling him what to do. I’d like to know who is talking to & seeing in Ca. That could possibly give him help with solving problems in Tx. Be careful he’s not endorsed by others, who’d like him to divide the votes from the others that are better suited, to lead our Country. They did that in theTx gov. race, when they put Hutchinson in to split Medena’s votes & we ended up with Perry, who mouths what he’ll do & then doesn’t at the last moment.
Good for Michele. She is a great Candidate. Go Michele !
Congrats to Michelle but honestly, folks, please do the research on Ron Paul’s foreign policy and other issues you may have a problem with. He is not outlandish as people think. We just don’t know our Constitution and Ron Paul is trying to educate us! No other candidate will stand on the Constitution as he has done for years in Congress. We have lost our way and he can bring us back. He knows the money issue, the Fed issue, the foreign policy issue, individual responsibility vs. welfare state – all spelled out in the Constitution.
You made the wrong assumption about the top 3 candidates. They would obviously be Michele Bachman, Ron Paul and then Mitt Romney. Bachman and Paul essentially tied in the Iowa straw poll. Ron Paul’s support group are very loyal campaigners and it’s growing quickly as people throw away the propaganda and discover that Ron Paul is the only candidate who has a workable plan to help make America healthy again. The general media, and apparently Liberty News as well, purposely ignores Ron Paul and fails to report on him properly. However, the media is falling all over themselves to push Rick Perry to the head of the pack. Perry only just declared his candidacy and he missed the debate and the straw poll. Let’s just wait til we all have ample opportunity to see him in action and hear him defend his own views and Presidential plan. Hyping Perry now is very premature and ignoring a strong candidate like Ron Paul is folly.
I agree, I’d like to see Bachman, Romeny & Paul working together, even Cain. We’d have a diverse team of good Christians in the Whitehouse, I believe could work to gather, & willing to pray together.
You listed the positions of the straw poll.
1. Bachmann
2. Paul
How is it that Romney and Perry was put in among the top (3)?
They were not even listed in the straw poll.
Thought Santorum did well, and think he would make a great President. Like Bachmann also. I would be comfortable with either.
Michelle Bachmann is the real deal and we all need to get behind her! The “Presidential look” of the ones who were expected to win (Romney and Perry) did not carry the day! People are finally seeing beyond the external into the character of their presidential picks! I BELIEVE MANY PEOPLE ARE SKEPTICAL OF SUPPORTING HER, EVEN THOUGH SHE CANNOT BE BOUGHT, BECAUSE SHE IS A WOMAN. She has the character to make a good president. Cain lost a lot of support when his ties to the Kansas Fed were revealed and when he “apologized” to the muslim brotherhood. Perry and Romney are too tied in with Merck and Romneycare and people don’t want JUST ANOTHER POLITICIAN! They want someone who will be true to their convictions! Godspeed Michelle Bachmann. May God guide and protect you!
The surprise for me is that Romney is completely missing from the list. For a “frontrunner” being bolstered by the media that is a horrible finish. I am not surprised with Bachmann and Paul on top since they have a solid base of activist support across the country.
I agree with the others on Ron Paul—He is tied with Michelle Bachmann. Why isn’t the tea party and affiliates supporting him? He has the correct solutions and is smart and serious. Some of his views have been misrepresented–give him a chance to clear it up. It seems that since he doesn;t have a flashy or generic marketing approach that he is ignored.. If you all would support him, it would be a complete turn around–the people understand what he says but he needs our help.. He is stable and not the RHINO that Perry is.
Anyway, didn’t the people have to pay $ 30.00 to vote in the straw poll? Think of all those who did not vote.
I clearly think Bachmann and Paul tied for top spot. I also think Ron Paul has the right answers to move our Republic forward in a recovery economically, politically, and socially. But, I don’t know whether he would best serve the Nation as the President or as the Speaker of the House of Representatives? Rick Perry has been able to draw jobs and increase employment, therefore increasing the tax base of his state. He has also appealed to the Christian demographic while the federal government its courts and the MSM has been demonizing Christianity. Who ever is elected to the Presidency can draw upon Perry’s experience in these areas to aid in job development and growth and increased tax revenue for the federal government. Pual or Bachmann either one would make fine choices for President of the United States of America in my opinion.
For Vice Prez. Marco Rubio.
1) He will deliver Florida.
2) He will deliver the Tea Party vote.
3) He is Latino. This will undercut the Dem’s hold on that demographic.
Michelle Bachman would be a great President with Marco Rubio as V.P. We would have a predominance of voters…female, Tea Party, Latino and Florida not to mention all they bring to the table for our country.
I would not count out Donald Trump. He is a no shxt guy and would not put up with any crap. He knows business, jobs, international markets and how they all affect our country. We need a strong candidate who knows how a country functions in a certain type of economy.
9.5 Million HAVE SEEN THIS…YOU and all candidates MUST ALSO!!
