Newt Gingrich… saved by the debate!

Newt Gingrich made a big mistake and terrible miscalculation recently with his attacks on Mitt Romney and Bain over a couple of companies that were shut down. There is no question it has hurt him and caused a lot of problems for his candidacy. But one of the main reasons Gingrich hasn’t been able to pick himself up is that he hasn’t been able to find his footing in a way that allows him to use his strengths in debates.

That all changed last night in the Fox News/GOP debate in South Carolina. The first few minutes were painful for Gingrich as they focused on his attacks on Bain. Once he survived past the first 10 or 15 minutes, it was Newt’s debate and he had the night from that point on.

I don’t think Gingrich will be able to win in a state like Florida, and I think he’s going to end up having larger problems for reasons I’ve stated before. That said, I think Gingrich just elevated himself to a tied position in South Carolina as Saturday’s primary approches. His debate performance might have killed off any momentum Santorum picked up and I believe it’s now a Romney vs Gingrich fight for the win.

Newt’s greatest challenge in the next few days might be less about peeling away Romney votes and more about convincing the “Not Romney” voters to unify behind him. Texas Governor Rick Perry also had a pretty good debate performance and is likely to see a bump in support. Rick Santorum didn’t shine, but I don’t think he really did anything to damage himself either. Ron Paul is Ron Paul and he has a healthy support base. Gingrich will have to navigate the waters in a manner that keeps the Not Romney vote from spreading too thin.

According to the RCP average, Mitt Romney enjoys an 8.5% lead in South Carolina.

  1. Mitt Romney – 30.5%
  2. Newt Gingrich – 22%
  3. Ron Paul 14.3%
  4. Rick Santorum 14.3

I predict Gingrich will see a 5% or so bump from his debate performance. Romney might slip a couple but not by more than 3%. This will bring the top spot into a statistical dead tie in South Carolina. The unpredictable part of the South Carolina algorithm is the departure of Jon Huntsman from the race. Huntsman was commanding 5% of the vote and endorsed Mitt Romney. I can’t imagine Huntsman voters will go anywhere but Romney, so I suspect they may indeed go that direction.

Bottom Line

In the end I believe Newt Gingrich is back in the hunt for a first place finish in South Carolina. There are still 4 full days between now and Saturday and a debate on Thursday night, so a lot can happen. But at this point South Carolina is up for grabs and it’s the last stand to stop Romney from running the early states and taking the nomination before Super Tuesday.

I do not believe a win in South Carolina would be enough for Gingrich to be able to win a state like Florida, but it would be enough for him to stay in the race and possibly compete all the way through Super Tuesday.

-Eric Odom

I leave you with what I believe is Newt’s greatest moment in the debate.

  1. Andrea Johnson says:

Newt Gingrich is an angry vindictive man who might do well in a debate but that is about it. Not very Presidential.
And then to question Capitalism by talking about Bain? Will he be capping profits?
He is an unfaithful cheating husband who told his wife who had cancer at the time that he wanted a divorce, is he any better than John Edwards?
Also he shouldn’t complain about the Super PAC, when you do the crime you do the time.
I live In Florida and will not be supporting Gingrich.

    • Patricia Leath says:

Why is it necessary to continually bring up the past? Who cares? Gingrich’s ex-wife is alive and well. She wanted the divorce. There were no papers served in a hospital. Do your home work!
As for not voting for Gingrich, you are a fool. Romney is part of the “Good ole Boys Club”. Do you really think that he is going to move into the White House and make changes? Has it ever dawned on you that the GOP hierarchy want Romney and not Gingrich so that they will be able to maintain the status quo? While “America is self-destructing” do you really care about who slept with whom? By the way, why isn’t Romney releasing his tax returns until after the South Carolina and Florida primaries? Just a little idea for you to ponder.

    • Jeff Jayich says:

Cheating husbands JFK, MLK, Bill Clinton and untold others. Personal behavior is a window to a person BUT few people know all of the circumstances in personal relationships. Using your opinion of a candidate personal life as a indicator for their role as leader of this country is a selfish act of putting your “feelings” ahead of your logic, Americans have a truly bad habit of evaluating a political candidate by “how does this affect me?” rather than “What is best for the country?”. Newt is not my 1st choice but please develop your decisions based on Whats good for America.

    • Mary says:

Of course he is angry, and why shouldn’t he be after the crap that Romney pulled on him in IA. He was the one that tried to keep the campaign clean so that when the candidate went up against Obama he wouldn’t have too much fodder. Romney’s camp would not have it. So he is just supposed to sit by and take it? As far as his divorces are concerned, how many people do you know screw up their marriages? I know too many. How many ask forgiveness? Have you heard John Edwards ask for forgiveness? How about Bill Clinton? The fact that he is now a grandfather, married to the same woman for a long time whom he obviously respects and loves says a lot. People change for the good; and their talents remain. Newton Leroy Gingrich’s talents lie in making this country successful. He has a proven record of doing that over and over again. But you go ahead and vote for a man who believes in killing babies and that the taxpayer should foot the bill. He believes in FORCING people to buy a product against their will. This flies in the face of the Constitution of the US and yet you would vote for him? Newt does not and has not ever believed in killing babies, he’s sees that the mandate will not work and is unconstitutional. He loves everything about this country and respects it’s military. Romney is just a showboat, there is very little difference between him and Obama.

      • billie says:

        Well spoken Mary !!
Nobody seemed to complain when Romney spent millions of dollars on lying, negative ads trying to destroy Newt. That was okay, but when Newt decides to fight back it’s “BAD BAD NEWT. What was he suppose to do…. tuck his tail and run? Hooray for Newt for fighting back. It proves what a strong leader he is. As far as his personal life goes. Newt admitted that he’s made mistakes in his past., but he’s older, and has changed, and made peace with his God.
So please…..stop being so self righteous. You are not God.

    • Zoly says:

Why bring up the past? Because it is the best indicator of the future.

Romney has no reason to play with the system. He has already
accomplished his life’s dreams. Newt will be right back in the good ole
boys club, or sitting with Pelosi. That tells me he is wishy washy–
what was he thinking? It more of a power trip for Gingrich. Romney
has his solid family life and his faith to uphold. That gives him a purpose to do the right thing.

    • Lee Moore says:

It is not true that Newt Gringrich asked his wife who had cancer for a divorce. She was the one that wanted the divorce. If you read the book written by his daughter, it sets the record straight. People change and Newt has mellowed with age and becoming a grand-father has changed his perspective as well. Please, don’t spread rumors. It is harmful to the candidates and to the process.

    • GGnorwood says:

Fine! Don’t vote for Newt, but tell me: For all the topics you listed for not liking Newt, do any of those things address the issues of saving our country from Obama’s destructive agenda? Do you honestly believe any of the other candidates can hand Obama his head in a hard-hitting, one-on-one debate? Dont’ think for one moment that the Obama administration is laying in wait to ambush Romney on a number of issues. Romney, I believe, has more weaknesses than Newt, when you factor in the debating skills and the undeniable superior intellect of Newt over ALL comers.

  2. Mary A says:

I do not believe Newt Gingrich is the most conservative candidate in the race. However, now that Hermain Cain is out of the running, I do believe that he is the candidate most willing to confront issues without giving politically correct answers. I would be willing to support him because he is willing to speak out. Mitt Romney constantly uses the excuse that he had to work with a Democrat legislature and that’s why he made the decisions he made. What will he do if he has to work with Democrats in the Congress? If Newt wins the nomination, I would like to see Rick Santorum run as his VP

  3. Alexandra Mark says:

If that was a debate last night, then Newt won it handily. If that was merely another step on the road to Mitt’s coronation, then all bet’s are off. Newt is a threat to the establishment’s power base, but they know they can do business with Romney; he is, after all, one of them. You can tell how nervous the ‘elites’ are by virtue of their wanting this thing all wrapped up ASAP; they don’t want to have to worry about themselves any longer than they have to! It’s not about us, it’s about them.

  4. Newt talks great so did Obama newt lies and cheats so does Obama newt is childish if he don’t get his way so does Obama seems there more a like than people think also newt wasn’t speaker the whole time he claimed he balanced the budget he was removed for ethics violations and to busy cheating on his second wife romney gives us the best chance to beat Obama

    • GGnorwood says:

Oh Please! Stop with the Newt bashing. Congress was angry at Newt’s ability to stand toe-to-toe with them and they punished him with a fine to make him go away. Old guard repubs are as dangerous and shifty as the dems. As for the wife thing: She wanted a divorce! Can we PLEASE get past these non issues? Our country is falling to pieces, so we better focus on the REAL issues before we reach the point of no return!

  5. Robert Lebischak says:

Newt is the only one who can beat Obama and his machine. I have felt this for ages, I’ve listened to the talk and promises from all the runners. I’ve seen Newt 5 times now and feel he is the only one that can bring America back. He is honest and listens to what the voter has to say. Newt has the knowledge and common sense to know what is going on. All he asks is that we are with him, not for him, he realizes that no one person can did it, you need the voters with the person, we need to work together to get America going again, and I am with Newt.

  6. Sharon says:

I honestly think NEWT is the one to lead our Republic back to what it should be and he will undo the damage of the Obama regime.

    I VOTE for Newt.

  7. Janice Gaskill says:

There is only one true conservative patriot running, and that is Ron Paul. Too bad the media is so hell bent on destroying the only man with a real plan to save America. It’s sickening to read all of the lies and distortions, particularly on his foreign policy. To anyone out there who really cares about America, check out Ron Paul’s website for yourself. Don’t rely on the media or anyone else for that matter to give you the truth. As for the other candiates, it’s obvious they are sell outs. Newt Gingrich is New World Order puppet along with Romney and the rest of them. Santorum voted to raise the debt ceiling 5 times! If you believe Ron Paul is the lovable but crazy old uncle in the attic, that’s exactly what the media WANTS you to believe! Think about it.

    • Mary A says:

The media doesn’t have to do anything to Ron Paul. If you listen carefully to what he says, Ron Paul destroys himself. I don’t know how anyone can listen to what he says and still support him. His foreign policy is not only dangerous for America, it’s totally irresponsible. He may be right about the Federal Reserve, but who needs an economy if we are destroyed first by our enemies.

    • Pamela says:

      Janice,
I know Ron Paul. I lived in Lake Jackson. He does not need the media to show that he is pretty much a “crazy old uncle in the attic”. Moments of clarity and perfect lucidity, but beyond that – be careful!

  8. Joanne Styslinger says:

I am one of the many South Carolina voters that will be voting this Saturday. I am also one of the many longterm unemployed who fought for a very longtime not to reach the food stamp, I losted and would very much like to have a purpose, to work and provide myself with a steady income which I believe all of us who are currently out of work want. Since Iowa I had been leaning strongly for Rick Santorum, though in the last couple of weeks I have been wavering between Santorum and Gingrich. As of the debate last night and watching the debate twice I will be voting for Gingrich. His values and how he presents it is much more powerful than Romney could ever be. It would be awesome though should Gingrich get the nomination and have Santorum as his running mate now that would put the established elite and the rinos noses out of joint. Gingrich would run circles around Obama who is not a great orator without his tele-prompter, and we all know how silly Biden is Santorum would cream him. Even if Obama decided to have Hillary as his new running mate Santorum would cream her as well.
I was originally an independent by 2008 I was a republican by February 2009 I moved all the way into the conservative base.
The middle east is becoming extremely unstable we need a very strong commander in chief who can keep our people and country safe, we also need someone who has actually balanced the budgets and worked with both sides to get it done. Gingrich is not afraid to speak the truth and after this debate he doesn’t care for political correctness either.
Should Gingrich win in SC trust me those in Congress who continue to do business as usual will definitely start shaking in their boots.

    • Mary says:

You are right to choose either candidate. Both are strong conservatives, but Newt has the record to prove where he wants to take the country. What he did with a Democrat president was remarkable. Can you imagine what he could do if he was president, had a Republican senate and Republican House? Holy Toledo it would be great! He definitely would not be cowed by the Democrats left behind.

    • Enigmaticaluna says:

If Newt gets the presidency, I believe that is one person who should be call to be the VP. Lt Col Allen West, not only like Newt he’s in historian, he also has knowledge of the dangers we face with islam, support Israel totally, very conservative and the true proof of the American dream, a man of integrity, courage, valor, honor, he has balls, or what we will said in my language COJONES, he don’t follow political correctness and like no one, he knows the battle field…none other is more ready than him… but if he’s not a VP, he MUST be the Speaker of the house, as we need someone like him that follow the Constitution and stand with the people for Country… that is my take of the entire issue.

Newt leave the speaker position, because at the time Clinton was being investigating for his conduct, we all know the history, at the same time that Newt was having a relationship with his wife… that is not a crime, many people has done that…in fact every time a person talk to me, I find amazing how many people in the USA, has been marry more than once sometimes even twice, the circumstances I don’t ask for, but if you find me one person men or female who never cheat, I will said that it’s a miracle… people is guilty but they like to talk about others affairs… I don’t support none of those we see in the debates, but if I have to choose from those five in the pannel, I will said Newt, it’s the only one with vision, he talk about the future and responsibility we all have, everyone else talk about themselves, Paul is in old men with too much ambition, his ambition is not country, but himself, he has live most of his life to pursue the presidency… I listen to him close last night, he got lost in his words, for moment I felt like he didn’t know what to said… I listen and I happen to listen many of his followers through his words, because they use the exact one’s… that was a telling to me, they follow a cult leader, last night Paul was not talking to the American people, he was talking to his followers… the silence after most of his talk from those that were listen is a telling as well… is pathetic.!

Mitt got to much involve in his rhetoric, explain to much that became repetitive… but questions has been raise as his legal status to be president. This I have receive and I believe many Americans don’t know, I didn’t until yesterday… you decide… but under this words he might not be ” a Natural citizen” a child born of two citizen parents, witch must be citizens BEFORE the child born, not after…

“Since Romney’s grandfather fled the US with his 12 wives to escape felony prosecution under US law as a bigamist and his father was born in Mexico, it is only fair that Romney provide complete documentation of his status as a natural born American citizen, including proof that both of his parents were American citizens. It just sets a good example and will guarantee that this issue does not become a serious problem later in the presidential campaign, if he wins the nomination.”

  9. Gary Lothrop says:

We still have the media and talking heads trying to pick our candidate for us and I must credit Newt in his ability to make them all look dumb. The primary voters of SC are a very sharp bunch and I am pretty sure they can see through a lot of this garbage.

The Tea Party remains alive and well in contrast to how the media wants to portray us and SC should prove to be an interesting turn of events. Our focus at this point should turn to how we can nurture the Ron Paul supporters to join us in our efforts to fire Obama.

I feel safe in saying our candidate will be either Gingrich, Santorum or Romney and he will need every ounce of support we can muster to bring this home. I am resting up for the real battle soon to come!

  10. Vince Kyfes says:

Ah Andrea, is Obama “Presidential” or is he an angry man? As for cheating husbands…. Clinton, JFK, FDR and Obama all needs some cleansing.
Nice comments Mary A., I think your picks are great.
Alexandra M. hits the nail on the head, also.

  11. Vince Kyfes says:

You’re right Gary, the Tea Party is alive and well in Arizona and further bashing of this group will not deter us.
Janice; I, too, like Ron Paul but, if push comes to shove, I’d prefer to have Newt doing our shoving in this tormented world right now.
Hang in there Joanne, I’m with you.

  12. Istra says:

Newt comes across as angry but I feel it’s passion. Newt has baggage..well so do I. Newt cheated…how many years ago? What is the statue of limitations on sins?

As for Bain – Venture Capitalism is the dirty form capitalism, let’s be clear. If you don’t understand that clearly, watch Shark Tank. There is nothing angelic about it. It’s driven by profits for the investors NOT the small business person.. PURE and SIMPLE. Sometimes it has a happy ending but many times not. So to use that as the poster child for capitalism…that is a slippery slope.

I believe that Newt is the better candidate because Newt KNOWS the system. He knows everything DC. So he knows how people get around it and he knows all of it’s sins. We need to ferret out people like Harry Reid etc. and Newt knows the angles that no one else on that stage does. Could he use them for his own gain absolutely but that is where VOTERS have to pressure him. He bowed to public opinion when speaker of the house, I believe he can and will do it as President.

I don’t care about who is most Conservative. It surely isn’t Mittens. Newt has solutions he has ideas, what have the others offered up? All I hear is the same statistical BS and rehearsing of one’s resume. I want someone who has ideas AT LEAST. The author is correct in his assessment.

People need to put Newt’s history behind them and listen to what he offers. We all have sins and good Christians DON’T pass judgment.

I want solutions, I want a man who is more than pretty hair, and I want a man who knows how to work DC and in the right ways!!!! That candidate is Newt!

    • karen says:

I have been for Newt from the beginning–ever since talking to him personally at the showing of his documentary “City on Hill” in Columbia. That was not a campaign event, but it was great. I got to meet him personally and he took the time to go into detail on a question that I asked him–one I knew few Americans really understood. He wants to use a quality control strategy called “lean Six Sigma” to clean up Washington. He saw it in action in Boeing in SC, and realized its value..and gives Boeing the credit for that insight. I have been to his events 5 times now, and have never seen any politician more honest about his own performance, his personal growth and more passionate about his desire to save our great country. I really believe he wants us at his side to help do that because at every town hall, he has taken time to talk one on one–to the last possible minute to everyone who could get to him. As for Bain capital, he has tried to make clear the facts the media ignores….he did not create the ad. Neither he or any of the other candidates have any control over what the superpacs do. It’s time to do away with superpacs and let candidates control what is said about them.

  13. Mary says:

Jim DeMint supports Mitt Romney. Are you kidding me? He is supposed to be a staunch conservative and he endorsed Romney! I am really disappointed and I called his office to tell him so. Everyone from the Tea Party in SC should call and tell him also. What a disappointment.

    • karen says:

That is not true. I spoke to his office myself. Demint has not endorsed anyone and is not going to. They said people are confused because he has had positive comments on all of them at one time or another, but he has not endorsed any of them.

  14. ruth ann wilson says:

Mr. Romney’s statement that he would have signed the NDAA, SB 1867 just as Hussein did, is enough that he should not be a candidate. He was fully aware of the Violation of the Due Process, Article 5, Bill of Rights. Yet, he excused violating the Constitution with his “lame excuse” of goobly gook. No Excuse, Mr. Romney. By now, you should have read the Constitution and know that our Elected Officials are under Oath before the Lord not to exceed those Boundaries.
That’s why religion is so important, The Fear of God should keep you from violating an Oath of Office.
    For God & Country

  15. Zoly says:

Newt is an egghead. He has spent his life reading, teaching and
always working for the Government. He knows his way around DC.
He has not been in the private sector to test his marketing abilities like
Romney has. Like it or not Mitt is successful in all respects.

There is so much corruption on both sides Dems and Reps that its hard to know. Newt should be a speech writer for the new president.
Its hard to imagine Newts new wife, who looks like a store manikin as the
first lady. Althou Newt is capable, his past life indicates that he is fickle
and does not make lasting decisions.
    I think loyalty speaks volumes.

  16. Vince Kyfes says:

To Istra et al, Wouldn’t you just love to see an open debate …..
    no teleprompters …..
    Just Newt and Obama?

  17. Emily says:

Newt is always right on the money and that is why some in the media do not like him. He is right about jobs for young people. My son was 12 years old and went to the local supermarket. He talked to the produce manager who offered him one dollar every saturday to help put up the produce. He did that for many years until he was old enough to work for the store as an employee. He was given an application and then became discouraged because there was a question that asked about any serious illnesses. He told me they won’t want to hire me if I tell them I am Grand Mal Epileptic. I told him to tell the truth and put it in God’s hands. He told the truth, but was heartsick when he brought it to the store manager. The manager told him that he knew about the condition ever since my son was 12 years old and worked hard for the produce manager all those years for one dollar a week. He was told that it didn’t matter and that her was the kind of employee they wanted. He loved the job, earned his own money, bought his own clothes, and gave his mother ten dollars a week to help out. He has been very responsible ever since he was twelve and that one dollar a week helped to teach him that. We need more of this in this country.

  18. RKP says:

If Newt will focus his attacks on 0bama and the sub-slime media he can win the nomination and the Whitehouse. I think he is the only one with the “brass knucks” to take out 0bama and the S-SM.(Since we don’t have Palin) Newt has my support but in the end “I Am ABO” I would like to see everyone use the term “I Am ABO” every time they post and i would like it to become the National bumpersticker and slogan for all conservatives, Tea Partys, and Republicans. ANYBODY BUT 0BAMA, “I Am ABO”

  19. Debbie Laurie says:

Newt was on fire last night !!!! He nailed every question with intelligent well thought out answers. I loved the question Juan threw at Newt about poor people and minorities being janitors. Juan was stunned by the audience’s reaction to Newt’s answer…..it backfired on Juan big time.

I agree with the person who made the comments about Mitt’s answer if he would have signed the NDDA bill. With Mitt saying yes “he just sealed his own fate.” I hope one of the other candidates takes that sound bite and runs with it. Mitt is part of the GOP establishment which means NOT LIMITED GOVERMENT !!! The GOP establishment wants business as usual in the beltway. Not only do we need to make sure we don’t have another RINO in the White House as president but we need to work our tails off to win back the majority in the Senate and retain the majority in the House. We have got to be vilgant and preservere in order to take back our country !!!

  20. talonspoint says:

I strongly agree with Eric’s debate performance assessment but not on Bain or Florida. While Eric may well be correct about the Bain criticism being an error I believe Newt made a calculated decision to focus on the Bain negatives to blunt criticism against himself in the general should he find a way to upend Romney in the primaries. Furthermore the conclusion that Romney is undefeatable in Florida is most premature. Much of Romney’s support appears to be quite soft and he has yet to take 50% of a state (yes its early). Romney is greatly benefiting from a diluted field and should that field thin by 2 after SC he could be quite vulnerable by month’s end.

    • Eric Odom says:

My view of Florida has far less to do with hard vs soft support and more to do with political reality of financial and organizational requirements to compete in Florida.

You have seven very expensive media markets and a state that is extraordinarily costly to travel, campaign in and organize infrastructure in. Romney has been there organizing for years. He’s been up on the air already for weeks and he’s ready to be statewide in EVERY way possible with a simple flip of the switch.

Gingrich and Santorum “might” be able to compete in the corridor region, but there is no way they’ll be able to organize statewide in that amount of time. If it all comes to turn out, and it will, it all comes down to best organization and infrastructure, married with the ability to message state wide.

That doesn’t mean the best candidate will win, but it means the candidate best positioned for GOTV likely will. And right now that candidate is Romney.

      • Gary Lothrop says:

I do believe your assessment of the Florida situation is spot on!
It will be extremely difficult for any other candidate to amass the necessary infrastructure fast enough to do any good.

Where I am a bit mystified and also guilty is in the answer to this question. What are we waiting for and who will we place our support with?

It is pretty apparent there is no clear cut perfect candidate that we can all agree with but also very apparent the one or ones who do have a shot are in serious need of our support right now.

I think it is time for us to do our thing or get off the pot and let Romney have it. He is not my pick but by us not coming together now we are endorsing him through the back door.

  21. Nancy Engel says:

Newt is a stodgy old arrogant Washington rich guy. He got off the cruise ship thinking he was in a cake walk for the nomination. Well, his sour attitude and a $35,000 necklace from Tiffany’s, using Fannie money is what
blew him out…not negative PAC ads.

    • Gary Lothrop says:

I do see your point Nancy but we must remember we are going up against a President who throws Hulligan Halloween parties at our White House under the radar and Muslim prayer days on the Capital lawn while denouncing America’s Christian Heritage.

I don’t honestly care if a candidate took a cruise or bought his wife a nice necklace with earnings from his business. These things are a human condition and we all have mirrors.

The time is near when we all have to pick a candidate and you can be very sure every one of them have some skeletons that will be out of the closet once Obama goes into full attack mode.

The longer we remain divided and the more we seek to destroy our own the better it will be for him. None of my friends walk on water either.

Based on Romney’s political and public life I can’t support him unless he is my only choice. We don’t know his private details and probably never will. At the very least, Newt’s issues are about as public as anyone’s and we should learn to get over ourselves with all this “Holier than Thou” stuff.

  22. Lucille Atwater says:

I don’t get it. Newt was passionate I admit and it caused peple to not listen to what he was saying. He was aksed about his statement that poor people do not have a good work ethic. He did not directly answer the question but what he did say implies that that is what he bellieves. He is going to teach the poor how to get a job. There are those without a good work ethic but there are many who are poor because there are no jobs. We don’t want a president to teach the poor how to get a job. What we need is a president with some economic sense who will fix things so there will be jobs. And we need a president without Newt’s condescending atitude

    • Lucille,

You missed Newt’s entire point !!!! This is what I cannot stand about America anymore is people like you who don’t get it !!! If you had listened to the end of it you will have heard him say to not only get a job, but to get a better job, and the ultimate goal to “own the job.”

You would have to be a liberal to say it was condescending…..that is how liberals think. Liberals think everyone deserves a trophy whether they earned it or not.

If I had to pick between Romney or Newt as someone I would prefer to go into battle with (someone to carry my ammo and/or vise a versa).
I would pick Newt he’s a fighter, Romney I think would run away when the SHTF.

  24. I will vote for the one who can truly beat Obummer and he will not be a
Washington insider. No one persuades me as to whom to vote for like most of these comments suggest. Look at the stats as to who can beat Obummer!!! I hope that every person voting will go to God in prayer and we must all remember that God is in control God will still be in charge regardless as to who wins the primary!!

  25. Robert Neeley,

What you just said made the best sense. We need to ask God for guidance when choosing a candidate. You are right “God is in control regardless of who wins.”

Newt was not saved by the debates, newt was saved by himself.. The debate was only the formatted vehicle, that he used to make his point, that govt is not the answer to people’s problems, it only makes them dependent, not independent.

Reagan Conservatism and Free Market Capitalism, is the answer to remove oneself from poverty and despair, to prosperity and happiness.. NOT the govt..

Free Market Capitalism is incontrovertibly intertwined with American Democracy, Liberty, and Freedom.  Within the U.S. Constitution, is very heart, soul, and core of Freedom, Liberty, and Democracy, as it is tied directly with an individual’s right to choose, which is in itself, Freedom and Liberty, which thus gives power directly into the hands of the people, via their Freedom to choose..

This is the core element in a Democracy, the individual right to choose, by which the Free Market Capitalist system embodies, represents, in the Law of Supply and Demand, that is the vehicle and intertwined element of Freedom and Democracy…

This is why liberals want massive govt control over the people, to dictate to them, what their choices are and will be, thus removing their power..

Free Market Capitalism is all about empowering the people to be independent and self-reliant, prosperous and happy, not dependent and embittered with resentment and anaimosity towards others, as well as the system, which inevitably leads them to liberal ideology of socialist-marxism, which expalins their Anti-Americanism an following of Obama and the Democrats.

This goes directly to what Speaker Newt Gingrich was telling the debate audience last night in SC, when he answered Juan Williams question about race, and govt entitlement dependency..  which was meant to try to embarrass and humiliate Newt. but which didn’t work, as so obviously noted.

If there is one thing liberals do not want, it is for people, especially minority people, to be self-reliant, independent, and empowered, and equally with thought.. As this would inevitably guide people, of their own accord, away from the liberal democratic party, thus they will lose their political power base, thus their power, thus their money.

    • Tea Party Patriot 4 Ever,

Everything you said was spot on !!! Free Market Capitalism is about empowering people to be independent and self reliant. The liberals want the minorities to stay on the plantation and be dependent on them for votes only. Truly sad.

I am looking at this election like a poker game.
It (canidate) may not be your favorite but pick and play your strongest card.

  28. GGnorwood says:

I’m going to mention this as much as possible: No one is talking about the caliber of people Newt would surround himself with, were he to win the White House. I have faith that he would select men and women who would reinstate the rule of law that Obama has trampled and ignored. Also, let’s not forget the Supreme Court. Newt would surely nominate judges with impeccable credentials that support the Constitution of our great nation.
